The people who lived in the Victorian house inhabited a different mental world from ours. The assumptions they made about privacy, comfort, childhood, family, and gender make them seem almost impossibly remote from us. This book gets inside this world of middle-class Victorian social assumptions by starting at the beginning. Judith Flanders shows us how social history is built up out of tiny domestic details. I am really enjoying this book. Hard to put down.

This book contains thousands of facts. More than 175 locomotives described in detail. A very informative book.
Nobody but Mary Higgins Clark can write a mystery that can hold my attention. This is a good read as all her books are.
All creatures fear M'su Cocodrie, king of the swamp, except for Dog, who taunts the alligator daily from the safety of the cabin he shares with Man. When Alligator finally gets his chance to make mincemeat out of Dog, he is outsmarted by his quick-thinking victim and subsequently spends his days in the swamp with just his eyes above water, waiting to get revenge. The text of this simple Cajun folktale reads aloud well, and the accompanying pictures are richly conceived, depicting the swamp in myriad shades of greens and browns. Mimi and I just love this book and love reading it aloud together. It is a little young for her but we love it so much that Frank even likes to listen when we read. A very funny book.
